Synopsis

Prologue

While celebrating at a masquerade ball, the Prince is approached by the evil sorceress disguised as a mysterious woman. When the woman offers him a beautiful red rose in the hopes that he will find true love, she is met with arrogance and pride from the Prince. Not interested, he sends her away. Later in the evening the Sorceress sends the Rose back to the castle; unbeknownst to him, a terrible spell will be cast upon his kingdom, turning him and his subjects into beasts.

Act 1

Beauty (Belle in French) is the youngest and most beautiful of a merchants three daughters. When the Father asks his daughters what they wish from him, the eldest two daughters ask for gold. Beauty wants only but a simple rose. Her father leaves to find a rose in a mysterious garden where he encounters the Beast. The Beast is willing to spare him only if he sends one of his daughters in exchange for his life. Thus Beauty goes to his castle to save her father. She slowly becomes accustomed to the Beasts personality and all the idiosyncrasies of the castle. One night, Beauty’s father becomes ill. The Beast gives her permission to leave but she must return before the Rose wilts or he will die.

Act 2

Beauty feels that her Beast is love sick and returns just in time to save his life. She accepts his offer of marriage and is restored to a gracious and handsome Prince. The whole palace celebrates their marriage and release from the evil sorceress’ curse.
