Tampa Ballet Theatre Tells a Tale as Old as Time in Beauty and The Beast Performances

b&b!TAMPA, Fla. (April 18th, 2017)—This June, Tampa Ballet Theatre will be telling a tale as old as time in an original classical ballet. Tampa Ballet Theatre will be closing its season with a performance of Beauty and the Beast. Beauty and the Beast will be performed at the Central Park Performing Arts Center. The performances will be on Saturday, June 3rd at 2:30pm and 7:00pm. Beauty and the Beast will be starring the very talented Tampa Ballet Theatre company members including: Kayla Miller as Belle, Ben Bergman as The Beast, and Heidi Romero as The Red Rose.

Beauty and the Beast is about a young girl named Belle whom is different from the rest with her nose always stuck in a book. Based on the original story, there are no dancing dishes here, but extraordinary beasts, animals, and characters that are sure to amaze. This 3 act classic love story shows that true love is deeper than superficial looks and is sure to inspire all who see it.

Tampa Ballet Theatre Closing Season with A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Ruth Eckerd Hall

A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Shakespeare’s most popular comedy, focuses on three parallel stories: the trials and experiences of two sets of lovers camping in a magical forest with a meddling Puck, Oberon and Titania, the warring king and queen of the trickster fairies, and a group of rough craftsmen staging a not so good production of Pyramus and Thisby for the wedding of the lovers. Tampa Bay Ballet and Tampa Ballet Theatre Announces Christopher Liddell Joining Faculty

Christopher Liddell at Tampa Ballet TheatreTampa Bay Ballet (TBB) and Tampa Ballet Theatre (TBT), recently named in-house resident ballet company of Ruth Eckerd Hall, are all jazzed up to have Christopher Liddell, from New York City, joining the company as an artist in residence and faculty starting in September. As an artist in residence, Liddell will be bringing new original repertory for TBT and REH to help expand the growth of dance in the Tampa area. Liddell will also be joining the Murray instructing classes at the Marcia P. Hoffman School of the Arts at Ruth Eckerd Hall. Tampa Bay Ballet is currently registering students (ages 3+) for classes with Liddell and the other talented instructors at TBB for the 2015-2016 season (September-May). Liddell will be teaching many different classes at TBB including: Ballet, Pointe, Men’s, Pas De Deux, Broadway Jazz, and Adult Ballet.

“TBB and TBT are ready to grow and expand the art of dance throughout the Tampa area” states Lindsay Clark, Artistic Director of Tampa Bay Ballet and Tampa Ballet Theatre, “with the support of people like Chris, Ruth Eckerd Hall, and the community, Tampa will soon be known for its exceptional dance performances.”

Christopher Liddell is an ABT certified teacher in Pre-Primary through Level 3 of the ABT National Training Curriculum. He has taught alongside some of the world’s greatest artists at prestigious establishments like Steps on Broadway NYC, Cecchetti Ballet Council of America, and in September, Yale University. His students have been accepted into schools such as American Ballet Theatre’s Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School and La Guardia Arts and Professional Performing Arts. Other students of Christopher have also gained work on Broadway, TV, and film. Recently, Christopher has released, “B.A.L.L.E.T. a Romance”. “B.A.L.L.E.T. a Romance” is a short film Christopher had directed and choreographed with dancers from American Ballet Theatre and Dance Theatre of Harlem. This past year, Christopher has also been directing and choreographing several successful musical productions along the East Coast.

“I was helplessly lured away from NYC by the amazing growth and talent at TBB and TBT.” states Liddell, “This company is becoming the new standard for great performances and I want to be a part of that! I hope Tampa is ready for all the amazing dance that is coming its way this season.”

Tampa Ballet Theatre Announces The Mad Tea Party To Raise Performance Funds

Tampa Ballet Theatre is going mad about tea! On March 29th at 4:00pm, Tampa can celebrate their un-birthday with Alice, The Queen of Hearts, and the maddest one of all, The Hatter himself. The Mad Tea Party will consist of a silent auction, poetry reading, specialty treats and teas, playing cards, and a performance of excerpts from Tampa Ballet Theatre’s Alice in Wonderland. The event’s purpose is to help Tampa Ballet Theatre raise funds for their upcoming performance, Alice in Wonderland. The Mad Tea Party will be held at the Tampa Ballet Theatre studio at 12720 DuPont Circle, Tampa 33626. Tickets are $18 per person. There are a limited number of seats available. The Mad Tea Party will be fun for all ages and will be featuring a fun menu of snacks, including eat me cookies, drink me drinks, chocolate fondue, and other delectable treats inspired by Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland. The excerpts being performed include Alice’s Variation, White Rabbit, Queen and King of Hearts Pas De Deux, Pas De Trois (Gryphon, Alice, and Mock Turtle), Bill the Lizard, The Caucus Race, and the Mad Tea Party. The dancers will accompanied by the music created for the original Alice in Wonderland ballet, composed by Carl Davis. The dancers performing are company members of the professional ballet company Tampa Ballet Theatre, pre-professional apprentices/trainees of TBT II, and students of the Tampa Bay Ballet school. This event has very limited seating available. The funds being raised at The Mad Tea Party will be used to help fund the show making process including: costumes, theatre rental, props, dancer expenses, backdrops, scenery, lighting, and more.

“I chose to stage Alice in Wonderland to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the publication of Lewis Carroll’s book,” states Artistic Director of Tampa Ballet Theatre, “I want to tell the story it how it was meant to be told, with every mad little detail.”

Tampa Ballet Theatre’s Alice in Wonderland is based off of Lewis Carroll’s novel written in 1865. It is a 2 Act ballet that follows a young girl named Alice who falls asleep by the riverbank with her sister; she then is startled by a White Rabbit and follows it down a rabbit hole to Wonderland. Once in Wonderland, Alice finds herself in a nonsensical world where she encounters many mad creatures, including: The Cheshire Cat, The Caterpillar, The Mad Hatter, The Queen of Hearts, and more. It is not untill the Queen of Hearts orders that her head be cut off, that Alice awakens from her dream and finds herself back by the riverbank with her sister.

“It takes a lot to make a ballet come to life,” states Clark, “call me mad, but with the support of the community I can make Alice in Wonderland a reality.”
